@moneyafterthirty: If more than 1/3 of adults can’t manage a $400 emergency, does saving or paying down debt make the most sense? #creatorsearchinsights #moneymindset #PersonalFinance #financialliteracy #debtpayoff
I definitely understand what you’re saying. I’m a single mother. I pay what I can pay towards my debt but my MAIN focus as a single mom with no other assistance, is building my emergency fund.

Thank you for personalizing this! When ppl talk about this they give this cookie cutter path and that doesn’t work for everyone.

I think it’s nice to do both. For example once your debt is paid off you have some savings and it doesn’t feel like you’re starting from the bottom. Psychologically it feels like “cool, reset”.

Both emergency fund and paying down debt is important. The critical part is making a manageable attainable plan and sticking to it. Know when you will be out of debt if you can stick to the plan.

I'm doing both, now that I've lowered my monthly expenses and I'm just renting a room, I have a lot of extra money to put towards debt and savings,$200 of every paycheck goes towards my savings, I also started a side gig and 50% of that goes into a separate savings account, and I've decided to put $1,000 a month toward one of my debts that I'd like to start with first, which will be 500 per paycheck
