Mawlana Shaykh Nazim always used to ask, "What is justice?" He asked, "What does justice mean?" Mawlana Shaykh Nazim said, "Justice means giving everything its proper place." Giving the rightful their right, putting everything in its proper place, where it belongs—that is justice. Simply everything... Even the smallest things one doesn't even think about: if you bring them to their place, justice arises. And where justice reigns, everything turns out well. Of course, one thinks first of law and statutes. Some might ask, "What does that have to do with it? What does putting things in their place have to do with justice?" Yet that is undoubtedly what it is all about. The order created by Allah, all of His creation—Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, created everything in the finest perfection and placed it in its best place. Yet people did not abide by it, and so everything went out of joint. That is why there is no longer any justice in the world today; it practically no longer exists. We don't need to deceive ourselves; everyone knows this very well. Does it even exist? Only very few are still deceived about this: there is no longer any justice in this world. As said: everyone must know their place. One must respect the place of Allah's creation. If you shift a stone here and take away a piece there, nothing remains of justice. Even if someone wants to practice justice, in many places they are not even allowed to do so; they do not succeed, for what is so rare is almost like nothing. Doing good and building up is hard. Yet even if it succeeds, it is all the easier to tear it down again. So it is your responsibility where you place things and what you do. One should reflect and intend: "I am doing this for the sake of Allah; may it, if Allah wills, benefit us, the people, and the Muslims." If it truly brings a benefit, then one does it. If it brings no benefit, one inquires more closely: if it does good, do it; if not, it is redundant anyway. That is why Islam shows us the way in everything; it shows exactly what to do and how to act. It teaches the proper manner and the required propriety. Therefore, there is no need to waste time, effort, or money uselessly. If you build a huge mosque in the middle of the desert where no one passes by—what good is that? It is completely unnecessary. Whoever wants to pray there pitches a tent, lays down a prayer rug, and prays. Likewise, where there is no congregation—meaning where no Muslims live—there is also no need to erect large mosques. Instead, one builds there in the land where Muslims live and where there is a real need. Even if it is not a dedicated mosque: an apartment, a small prayer room like here, or a dergah is completely sufficient—that covers the need. The Quran speaks of "shura": one must consult. One consults: "Is this place suitable for a mosque, a dergah, or something similar?" And one acts accordingly. Yet spending millions to put up a mosque in the midst of non-Muslims where there are no Muslims—what is the use of that? Nothing at all. Allah has given us intellect; one must weigh whether it makes sense or not. For the future, of course, Allah is capable of everything; should there be Muslims there, they will build it themselves. But simply building away without any reason is wrong—that is neither Allah's command nor the instruction of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). No Muslim acted so thoughtlessly back then. In the beginning in Mecca, they built neither mosques nor prayer houses; only after their arrival in Medina did they erect the Quba Mosque. There they prayed first, and afterwards they built the Prophet's Mosque in the illuminated city of Medina. Only gradually were mosques established everywhere Islam gained a foothold. Praise be to Allah, the number of Muslims grew considerably there, just as the number of non-Muslims also increased.
