@channelnewsasia: “They will never accept you as their own.” That’s how “Saif”, an Indian who studied and worked in the UK, feels because of the racism he experienced there. And he’s not alone in feeling this way. “Seema”, another Indian returnee who spent a decade in New York, says she felt she was treated with suspicion after reporting her stolen passport to the police. Their experiences come as anti-Indian hostility has grown online, with a 2025 US report finding that nearly three-quarters of anti-Asian slurs targeted South Asians. Both are now back in India — but want to leave again. Saif sees life abroad as offering less societal pressure and a better future, while Seema doesn’t want to close the door on the life she built in the US.
