@alcatrazguide: Did you know Alcatraz once had its own radio station? 📻 During the 1969 Native American occupation of Alcatraz, Indigenous activists created Radio Free Alcatraz, broadcasting from inside the former prison. Hosted by John Trudell, the program shared life on the island and gave the occupiers a platform to speak about Native American rights, sovereignty and Indigenous issues. The Indians of All Tribes occupation lasted 19 months, transforming Alcatraz Island into an important symbol of Native American activism. And traces of that history can still be seen on Alcatraz today. 👇 Comment “RADIO” and we'll send you our Alcatraz tour deal. 📍 Alcatraz Island, San Francisco, California #Alcatraz #RadioFreeAlcatraz #AlcatrazIsland #NativeAmericanHistory #sanfrancisco #AlcatrazHistory
