Forgetting words, or where you put your car keys? You're not alone - many women experience symptoms like this with the brain fog of perimenopause/menopause!
* Brain fog can be caused by hormone fluctuations, since hormones like estrogen can affect levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain that is associated with learning, memory, and motivation.
* Other symptoms of menopause, such as poor sleep and hot flashes/night sweats, can also affect your ability to focus or remember things.
* There are obviously other causes of problems with memory, including iron deficiency, thyroid disease, and severe memory or cognitive issues can be a sign of dementia (including Alzheimer's disease). So please see your doctor to discuss your symptoms and possible treatments.
