Bill Reynolds and his son Hunter used to visit their local card shop together, building a collection around the athletes Hunter loved. ❤️ Hunter could talk sports stats for hours. He played football, basketball, soccer and wrestling, dreamed of playing basketball for Alabama, and loved Steph Curry so much that his dad joked he’d rather talk about Curry than do his homework. In February 2022, Hunter was killed in a car accident. He was 11 years old. Years later, Bill faced a decision no parent should have to make: what to do with the card collection they had built together. He kept the pieces that meant the most to him. Hunter’s room remained intact, with a Curry autographed jersey on the wall. Then Bill brought the rest of the collection to the card shop they used to visit. As the shop owner went through the boxes, he could see Hunter’s personality in them: Alabama stars, quarterback rookies and Odell Beckham Jr. autographs. One OBJ card reminded him of a one-handed catch Hunter had made on the field. He kept that card himself so the memory would stay close. Bill and Hunter’s family are also honoring him beyond the hobby. Hunter’s Heart & Hustle Foundation helps young athletes participate in sports regardless of their financial situation. On Hunter’s Jersey Day, people wear their favorite team jerseys to remember him. These cards hold years of trips to the shop, conversations about sports, and time a father and son spent together. Through the foundation, Hunter’s love of the game is helping other kids make memories of their own. ❤️
