Edited clips were circulating as far back as 2022, before the joke really took off during Euro 2024, when Ronaldo’s intensity, facial expressions and commanding presence for Portugal became perfect material for countless memes. More recently, his newly dyed blonde hair has added a rather unfortunate level of visual accuracy to the comparison — and moments like this certainly aren’t making it go away. 😂 The latest image came during Portugal’s opening Nations League match against Wales in Lisbon on Thursday night. The 41-year-old captained his country in his 234th international appearance as Portugal dominated the game and eventually won 1–0 through João Félix’s 22nd-minute goal. Ronaldo himself had seven attempts, missed a couple of big opportunities and briefly thought he’d scored in the second half, only for VAR to rule him offside before he was substituted in the 67th minute. And somewhere amongst all of that, the cameras caught this. The slicked-back blonde hair, the grin, the pointing finger… you can see exactly why football social media immediately went back to Homelander. 😭😂
