Roets Cites Government "Inaccessibility" as Reason for Going Abroad Roets said Lex Libertas took the campaign international after years of unsuccessful attempts to engage the South African government. His organisation sent a formal letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa in January 2026 requesting a meeting to discuss South Africa's "deepening governance crisis" and the need for constitutional reform—but received no response. "We've actually learned this lesson from the ANC themselves," Roets said, referencing the party's own use of international pressure during the apartheid era. He insists the goal is not foreign intervention but international awareness to "channel that awareness towards growing support for particular solutions within South Africa". Government Rejects Claims, Critics Question the Narrative The Department of International Relations and Cooperation has dismissed the campaign, stating: "South Africa is a sovereign Republic, not a foreign protectorate... We can solve South African challenges with South African hands, without a foreign crutch". The ANC and government reject claims of systematic targeting of minorities, pointing to official crime statistics that do not support a "white genocide" narrative. Critics also argue the display ignores the hundreds of Black farmers and farmworkers killed over the same period, presenting an incomplete picture. Roets has rejected claims of seeking special treatment, saying: "We don't want special treatment.
