I had a boss that made us call her at 6am and speak to her directly if we were calling out sick. She had to make sure you sounded sick enough to stay home. Then her reply to feel better always carried disgruntled disdain.

I worked really close to home and my kiddo was sick at the time, so I let him stay home. It was only a half day & very lite work, so I told my boss "I need to work through break, because he has a doctor's appointment at 2. She said "oh I don't know if that will work" I said "I'm sorry, you misunderstood. I am working through my break and I am taking my child to the doctor at 2."

I have a boss like this but in a different way. She lacks empathy, compassion, understanding, and fairness, but mainly towards me. Those traits are only reserved for her favored staff and she doesn’t hide it.

In college I worked photographing rafters going down the river and my seahag boss said if it’s lightning stay out there. I was terrified of her but it was way too dangerous. I told her I wouldn’t get good photos if I was dead. She fired me for saying that.
