If you want the honest reason, it’s because FSD is an AI neural network. It isn’t “programmed” like you think it is. It’s trained on massive data and, this part might blow your mind, but with these really massive neural networks like FSD and large language models like ChatGPT etc, the engineers literally cannot tell you why it makes the decisions it does. They try to use reinforcement learning techniques to tweak the models to behave better through rewards and punishments but they literally cannot tell the software “if within X amount of distance, do not pass a car”… it’s all buried in the neural net!

I’ve had a 3 for 7 years and an X for 6 months. This is a major problem in the X but not in the 3. It’s a NEW problem. It doesn’t happen when in standard in the 3. The FSD in the X sucks compared to the 3.

My car enters a road from the left side then it will sit in that lane… even through there is an exit it will take in 0.1 miles

Are you driving in mad max? I’m in standard 90% of the time and mine has tho opposite problem. It moves into the right lane a mile back even if there’s a semi in the lane.

If you know you have to make a left or a right, I use my signal to left and right to nudge the car to change lane.. the least I can do since it’s already 90% driving for me. 😉

Is it doing that on standard mode? I typically avoid the highways at all costs, but it was doing that for me on mad max and hurry and it was infuriating. I’ve moved to standard mode in the city, which is absolute money!

Same. And also driving in the fast lane when the slower lanes are flowing at the same speed. I can’t stand people who go with the flow of traffic in the fast lane there for FSD will hopefully figure that out too.
