Great analysis, but it's really funny to me that the top comment about Eren being right is a total contradiction to what you're saying. I like to think of Eren as an anti-Lelouch in that Isayama held a more fatalistic view of the Shonen hero. In this instance, it was Eren, situated in a world of violence like you explain. Except that, Eren gives in to that fatalism and denies anyone an alternative to the regime of violence that moved the entire world. Eren and his worldview were fascist plain and simple.

I also think people forget that you can violently protect people out of love. You can be righteously angry about your loved ones being harmed to the point where you enjoy killing the harm doers. That doesn’t mean you’re crazy or overly violent or a psychopath.

Listen Eren is def selfish and psychotic in a lot of ways but I hate when ppl act like he likes killing. It stems from the whole “Eren never changed statement” like yes his goals never changed but his morality changed A LOT. S1 him would never kill innocents. His trauma and circumstances made him develop a very us vs them mentality. He was also very affected with the amount of lives sacrificed for him

eren wasn’t a psychopath at all, He was just very passionate. And it makes sense that when a passionate person finds an outlet for all of their bottled up emotions they will let it all out. Brother cried at least once every season due out of frustration

Eren was raised with love actually does prove that he knew right and wrong from an early age, which is why he had no regret about what he did to the traffickers. You could argue that he might’ve had some mental health issues but him being dotted on as a child was likely the reason why his sense of justice was so high at 9 years of age where he deemed it was unfair for someone to steal Mikasa family from her. He practically put himself in her shoes like “what if it was my loving parents that were taken from me” thus his rage

It definitely does. The way you view and interact with the world is firstly shaped by your first relationship - the one with a parent or caregiver, i.e. your attachment style. Not to mention, parents instill their values onto their children. Does it change the world around them? No. But it changes the lens in which they’re looking through. Psychological concepts aside, in the context of this story one could argue Founder Eren was simply manipulating Child Eren’s will, values, and lens. It does beg a “what comes first, chicken or the egg” question though

It matters because eren had a normal life, no childhood trauma, wasn’t raised in poverty or anything, two loving parents, for all intents and purposes he had it sweet. So him killing those two guys arent the actions of a boy hardened by a harsh world he was just like that. Compared to zeke who became the man he was because of his childhood trauma, a man who exists to oppose his fathers ideals believes eren was the way he was because their father raised him that way try’s to connect with him and make him unlearn their father’s teachings just to learn there was none.
