@conscious.app: Corporate profits hit a record high as the share of that money going to workers hits the lowest level ever recorded. For every dollar of value American businesses produce, workers now get less than 53 cents in pay and benefits. That's the smallest share since the government started tracking it in 1947. American workers produced 2.2% more per hour than a year ago. Their pay grew too, but prices rose faster, so after inflation an hour of work now pays slightly less than last year. In April through June, U.S. company profits ran $400.9 billion a year higher than in January through March. Companies kept a bigger share of the value they create as after-tax profit than ever, in data back to the 1940s. The 500 biggest U.S. companies spent a record $1.02 trillion buying back their own stock in the year ending September 2025. Buybacks usually raise the value of each remaining share, rewarding the people who already own them. The same companies paid shareholders a record $664.9 billion in cash that year. From July to September 2025, just 20 companies made nearly half of all buybacks, and Apple alone spent $96.7 billion on them over the year. Across almost every industry, companies build monopolies that crush competition, allow child labor in their supply chains, trap customers in subscriptions they can't cancel, sell your data, fight workers who unionize, pollute nearby communities... and that's just the start. Companies that treat people and the planet well are rare, but they exist. Some cap executive pay, some are employee-owned, some pay a living wage, some give profits to causes... you just have to know where to look. Support ethical companies. Fight corporate control. Check the Conscious Spend app to see how ethical a company is and who really owns what you buy.
