if kojima wanted you to play in chronological order then he would made them that way

I think 3 is the best one to start at, it’s story makes the most sense for a newcomer

The best way is release order but saving MGS 4 for last, then MGR.

There’s not a single series I can think of that’s best played in chronological order over release order

this is real i got recommended mgs by a friend and i insisted on playing chronologically to get the story in order but i just got gobsmacked by the beauty that is mgs3 (original) and pw is just not even a fraction of that for me

if you don't go with release order and start with metal gear 1 you're a tourist trendhopper

It depends, is it fun to do that? Yeah! Should newcomers that intend to play them all do that? Probably not?

If mgs released in chronological order, no one would ever say “dude once you finish sons of patriots you should go play the first game its the best way”, its like lesrning history, no one starts with ww2 and then go to ww1

I think a recap on the msx games are fine they genuinely just have bad game design and arnt that fun to play so running it chronologically is pretty rewarding if u play the solid games like it that's how I first experienced it and the mystery and extra exposition was great and the payoffs felt a lot more coherent
