By the end of the film, Strange isn’t defined by what he can do, but by who he chooses to become. One of the interesting fan theories is that the injured dog wasn’t a random moment at all. What if the Ancient One somehow set it in motion as one final test for Strange? Not to see whether he could heal a broken paw, but whether he would instinctively help a helpless creature without expecting anything in return. After all her lessons, this could have been the perfect way to find out if Stephen Strange had truly become the kind of person worthy of protecting the world, even when no one was watching.

If this was really a test then, yes. They already knew what kind of person he is and who he will be. But in my interpretation… it wasn’t about proving his humanity to them again. It was about proving to Stephen himself that he was worthy of becoming Doctor Strange.
