I think a lot of ppl perceive it as humble bragging when it could just be someone talking about what’s going on with them. Ppl are very insecure after all.

Tell this to 30% of the accounts on LinkedIn, who don’t even bother to disguise it: “I was so humbled to receive the blah blah blah award…” yeesh. At least it’s one way to tell that an account is less likely to be a bot… although AI probably copied this also.

It’s on par with dry begging “oh you have a car? That’s cool, I wish I did…I have to pay 30 dollars to get home from work today….” Like just as me for a ride, dont do that hinting around shit bc I’ll pretend I can’t take a hint.

i have a coworker who only humble brags. it is exhausting to be around. an occasional humble brag is not the worst thing, but if that's all someone does, it feel insincere. It feels like they're constantly making a bid for attention without letting things come up in conversation naturally. like the study says, why not just be straight up and say it with your chest instead of being passive and weird about it?

I wish there weren’t so many social rules and we could just base character on intention and action rather than how someone phrases complimenting themselves 😭 I just move on. Maybe people need that reassurance sometimes and I’d rather not judge people because it always comes from somewhere.

I hate to brag, but during a good stretch of the mid 2010s, I ran a tiny conglomerate of Facebook groups based around the concept of shameless bragging 😂

True. I just openly brag and ppl love it. Ex: someone says “wow what you just said was very helpful, I never thought of it this way” and I say “I know, I’m extremely smart”

I have autism and I am always overthinking everything I say and have been accused of bragging when just sharing things. So I learned never to outright brag about something. I need to show that insecurity that I’m having on the outside. So now this is conflicting information for me and idk what the right thing is because experience has shown me otherwise now I’m panicking people think this of me
