To every backyard breeder: this is what your puppies contribute to. This is the reality of what shelter volunteers, advocates, fosters, and staff go through when we find out one of the dogs we’ve been fighting for was euthanized simply because there was no space. While you continue bringing more puppies into a world already overflowing with unwanted dogs, we are watching healthy, loving dogs lose their lives because shelters are full. We are the ones walking them, loving them, networking them, begging for fosters, pleading with rescues, sharing their faces, and crying when we couldn’t save them. This isn’t about us, and I’m not posting this for sympathy. But watching dogs lose their lives over and over again takes a toll on the people who spend their days trying to save them. And more importantly, it’s inhumane that these dogs are dying when they never should have had to. You don’t get to see the aftermath.
We do. I’m angry. I’m heartbroken. And I’m exhausted. And so is everyone else who pours their heart into animal welfare. Stop breeding for profit while shelter dogs are dying for space. Adopt.
