It's curious i feel like 1 million is not a lot. A house can easily cost that. If you own it then you are a millionaire... Yet it doesn't mean you have good income and in some situations it could mean some crushing tax issues. I read in news about a lady who own a house and due to its value she was not able to pay property taxes and her income taxes due to owning a million house. She had to sell it. Seems so drastic, you need to move out because you are too old to pay for the house you lived all your life.

Been investing 30% of my income since my early 20’s. Hit $1M in my investments in my late 30’s but had market corrections so went below $1M for a while but eventually bounced back to over million in my early 40’s. It was just a number to me so didn’t feel special. The bigger day for me was when I reached financial independence at age 52. Had several million in investments, house paid, zero debt. I could have retired but I truly loved my job so worked an additional 10 years and invested up to 70% of my after tax income into brokerage accounts. This was on top of my company match. At 52, reaching the ability to retire is when I felt like I made it. I retired at age 62 and now use my after tax brokerage account to pay for my travel, and new cars without touching principle and at lower tax rates! Setup 8 income streams before age 62 but only pulling 3 to afford my retirement lifestyle allowing the others to grow untouched. Will turn on the other 5 income streams once I complete our Roth conversions!
