@therapybygabby: 3 questions I ask in the intake session 👉🏼 🛋️ Who would you go to when you were upset as a child? 🛋️ When did you feel loved growing up? 🛋️ How did you know when you were safe? I primarily work with people who have experienced trauma and have CPTSD. Most of my clients answer these questions with some variation of the following: “No one, myself” “I don’t know, I didn’t really” “When I was alone.” Even though the trauma event may differ client to client, what my clients have in common is their solution to the pain. Over performing and achieving, perfectionism, hyper independence, and avoidance. Because this is what happens when there isn’t anyone to comfort you, remind you you are loved, and cultivate safety that doesn’t depend on conditions. _________________ ✨ Accepting New Therapy Clients in Wisconsin & Florida 🎉 ✨ DISCLAIMER: This is NOT therapy and/or Supervision. I’ve been in therapy for 10 years those are deep questions! I don’t think I could answer any of them even now.

It’s so true. This is why we live in our heads constantly because we had to validate ourselves! Thank you for this post[Heartwarming]

The answer to that would be "no one, never and I never felt that". Been in treatment for complex trauma for 17 years.

If i can’t answer these, i guess that explains why I’ve failed at therapy too

I had to think too hard for these questions. 1. Really young? My mum. As I got older, maybe about 7, no one. I wanted to be alone. 2. Only when I was with my grandma but she lived a couple hours away and she died when I was 7. Other than that, I didn’t. 3. I can’t think of an answer. I don’t ever recall knowing when I was safe. Maybe with my grandma? I don’t remember even feeling safe… never mind knowing when I was safe… 🤯. I can answer them here, now. But I don’t think I could do that for an intake, especially when I started with my trauma therapist 10 months ago. I have to build trust first.

What if you have a client that explicitly tells you I do not want to talk about my past and childhood? Will you skip those questions?

I didn't have anyone to go to. I didn't feel as much love. I felt somewhat safe especially when I was in my own room.

It’s wild because all three questions pretty much have the same answer but as an adult, they are the people I struggle to feel safe with
