The sudden expansion pushes the tire outward against the wheel, after which another worker connects an air hose to continue inflation. The technique relies on a rapid pressure increase inside the tire cavity. That brief expansion forces the flexible sidewalls outward until the tire beads contact the rim seats, allowing conventional compressed air to build pressure afterward. The combustion step itself does not properly inflate the tire to its operating pressure. Although visually dramatic, combustion-based bead seating is extremely hazardous and can cause fire, tire failure, wheel damage, or serious injury.
