While there were neck abrasions, Dr. Olson clarified that these were not defensive injuries typically linked to someone trying to escape a ligature. Instead, they were classified as part of the injury caused by the ligature itself. Importantly, there was no documented injury to Cora’s fingers or nails. Dr. Olson also documented clusters of small bruises—three on Cora’s right bicep, three around a knee, two on the lower right leg, and bruises on the left ankle area. She mentioned that their reddish appearance indicated they had occurred recently. Alicia Zimmermann, who reviewed the children’s toxicology results, testified that no substances were found in Cora’s postmortem toxicology testing. The same results applied to Dawson and Callan. Thus, based on the trial evidence, there was no indication that Cora had any drugs or medications in her system that would explain sedation or unconsciousness. How is it possible for there to be no defensive wounds? I feel like I have more questions about this case than answers. I wonder if we will ever truly know the truth.
