carbon monoxide detectors must be mounted no higher than 18" from the floor. Smoke detectors are different

Actually, smoke alarms are connected to the breaker. There's its own breaker switch, where you can turn it on and off. That beeping is much worse. It's called your smoke alarm. No longer works

You would need this on the ceiling because smoke rises and by the time the smoke gets that low your probably dead
