That’s one of my favorite things about Taylor’s music. It feels as though her songs are about finding truth within herself and by extension the listener can find truths in themselves. This song, in particular, feels like she is speaking to all of us. “I know what it’s like to be in a relationship where you’re not valued. I’ve been there, too.”She’s also telling us that she found her way out and so can we.

Agree with you that the parallel of Patient Zero, although mostly aligned with TTPD tracks, has extended to Lover, Evermore and Midnights, such as You're Losing Me (the parallel structure and stream of conscience bridge, which is a signature of this song and TTPD songs). . Anyway, I don't know she's intentional or not. All 4 Encore tracks all resembles last 4 albums in nearly-reversed order. - Patient Zero has a stream of conscience writing style of TTPD (especially on the bridge) run along mid-tempo instrumental. - Cleveland! is TLOAS track in a less unhinged form. - Pink Clouding is using color shade metaphors and dreamy synth sound like Midnights. - Babylon is, as you pointed out in other comments, Evermore-coded: 3rd person perspective, Alt-Country lyricism, beats similar to Long Story Short and same set of metaphors used in Cowboy Like Me.

I love how it is universal- the song can be true for SO many relationships whether romantic, business, or friendship !!! No sense in arguing "who its about" as it can be MULTIPLE people/situations

Oh wow. I hear this song and think “he” is more like fame personified… like she swirled her experiences with the industry, Scott & Scooter, her masters, and maybe even Blake Lively’s situation into one cohesive storyline and turned it all into a person. Kind of a combo of Cancelled, Father Figure, and TLOAS (the song).

Well or she's not a completely reliable narrator (especially when it comes to Joe) cause she loves to re-write narratives a bit and most of all is still emotionally effected. Writing about how someone hurt you and hurt you were is totally valid but that doesn't make the guy or the relationship bad. Making him the villain in her head might be a coping mechanism trying to move on easier. She's still constantly refenrcinf him, his work and now with the same dress when the woman he was seen with.
