Exactly bro a lot of the whole “black British” thing is just ppl who are ashamed of their home country and don’t like claiming it, the reason why African Americans are African Americans is because they’ve been in America so long that they’ve culturally and traditionally diverged, we are literally just 1st gen-3rd gen immigrants, some of us literally have accents 😂 we know where we’re from and need to keep our cultures instead of just saying “black”

Black British is more so a global term and an overall category for African and Caribbean people in the UK

I said the same thing and people got mad. I feel like some black people in the Uk are trying to hard to create a joint identity like what Black Americans have and its not possible. Obviously in the near future it will happen but as of now we are all like first or second gen and very in touch with our culture.

It just doesn't feel like a complete enough identity idk. Like I'm British and black, but that comes from me being Nigerian. It's not like black Americans where it's like hundreds of years of cultural development

You are making sense. A lot of Africans are taking on identities that dont belong to them. Leaving Africa you still are African. If I moved to Britain, I would still be black American and a immigrant.

it’s a very complex identity ngl. there used to be a sense of black britishness i felt but that’s gone now and i think the americanisation of the UK post COVID has played a huge role in that and we don’t speak about it enough. there was a genuine culture we once had and shared and that’s why did you see blows up on here every few months because it reminds us of that time

Totes understandable, but I think if you’re British born, you must remember, that your experiences as a British Ghanaian is TOTALLY different to someone born and raised in Ghana. However, you mentioned you’ve lived in Ghana and that’s likely why you don’t really assign the black British label to you which is definitely understandable and interesting. I think it’s a good thing you’ve spoken on this- but I think for most people, knowing where someone’s from is different to actually being raised there. Very different.

I think black British is any Black Country that was colonised by the English and you have to been born here too to be black British for ex South Africa, Ghana, Uganda etc and you were born in England then your black British that’s how I see it

I do think we should embrace the Black British identity - we don’t have the same lived experience as those in our homelands and that’s coming from a Ghana born but UK raised person. The mixture of cultures is uniquely Black British because of the diversity especially in London

I feel the same about “British” anything. British is just an artificial identity. If the Union dissolved the British identity would go with it.
