I have a close friend who’s getting ready to divorce her husband. She hasn’t given him the papers yet. But she redid her advanced directive, and gave me a copy to hold for her and delivered a copy to the hospital where she gets all of her care. That ended up being really important when she had to be hospitalized, and the hospital called me instead of calling her husband.

I'll have to find the link, I can't remember if it's UCSF, UC Davis, or Stanford, but they have an amazing advance directive form that breaks things down easily and helps you spell out exactly what you want.

Let’s be clear here, this is an excellent piece of advice for people of all ages. Everyone thinks it happens to everyone else, not them, until it happens to them. Much easier to spend a few hundred dollars up front, than spending way more later on.
