not even historical one but flat earthers. two of my co-workers have just come out to me as flat earthers and after me actually pulling up the live feed of the NASA satellite showing us Earth they were just like. but why can't they show us the entire Earth at once and then I pulled them up a photo of the entire Earth at once and that still wasn't good enough for them because it was a photo on the internet. then they were just like you know everybody has their own reality and I said no. there is one reality and we all live in it. at the same time there aren't different realities

With regards to the motivations for the civil war, that is a matter of perspective. From the southern pov; yes, absolutely a war to preserve slavery. From the North however; it was first and foremost a matter of preserving the Union. Aboloshing slavery was secondary, and if the Union could have been kept intact only on the condition that slavery be a part of it, it would have been so.
