How to make traditional Salvadoran empanadas 🇸🇻 In El Salvador, empanadas are a dessert. We fill them with beans or (as we did here) a sweet milk custard. Recipe 👇 Ingredients: • 4–5 ripe plantains • 2 cinnamon sticks • Enough water and oil for boiling and frying For the custard filling: • 2 cups of milk • 1/2 cup of white sugar • 1/4 cup of cornstarch • 1 cinnamon stick Instructions: • Cut the ripe plantains into large pieces and boil them along with the cinnamon sticks until very soft. • Let them cool a bit, peel them, and mash until you get a smooth and uniform dough. • For the poleada, mix the cornstarch with the sugar and a little cold milk in a bowl, stirring well until completely dissolved. • In a pot, heat the remaining milk with the cinnamon stick over medium heat. • When the milk is hot, add the dissolved cornstarch mixture. • Cook, stirring constantly, until it thickens like custard. Remove from heat and let it cool completely. • Apply a little oil to your hands, take a portion of the plantain dough, flatten it in your palm, and place a teaspoon of poleada in the center. • Fold it into an empanada and seal the edges well. • Fry them in hot oil until golden brown on both sides. • Lightly coat the empanadas with sugar and enjoy them with a good Salvadoran coffee ☕️ … . . . #madeinelsalvador #visitelsalvador #coffeemoments #coffeeaesthetic #coffeerecipes
