in this case you are way wrong, escuchar means pay attention to what you are hearing, I’m native Spanish but I speak English since 1968 long time ago, so I can ask, que estás haciendo ? te puedo decir oyendo música and believe me I’m not saying something wrong

In theory, yes. But some countries in Latin America use “oir” more “estoy oyendo música” while other places like Argentina escuchar is almost exclusively used for everything and pit sounds more formal, specific nowadays.
