I think you’re right. My mother suffers from arrested development. It’s like she is stuck in a 16 year olds mind and she’s approaching 60 years old. I also wanted to step out of the continual cycle of mental/emotional abuse.

My mom is emotionally immature. I no longer put up with her crap and deflecting accountability. I give her what she wants, to not talk about anything serious or personal. So she gets a surface level relationship, she's an acquaintance now. I care about her bc she's my mom but I do not like or respect her. She cultivated this relationship a long, long time ago.

I don’t like her. I don’t like who I become around her. I don’t like the way I feel after any interaction with her. I revert to a scared little child who is afraid to speak up. So we don’t have a relationship. It is what it is.

This popping up as my mother is drunk and yelling at me outside my door while we are on vacation because i tried to trust her again and thought the trip would be good for us but instead she got drunk and just started going insane like she has my entire life and its really my final straw and this was a sign lol

Healing made me realize I’m happier when I keep my distance, and even though I can acknowledge there is immense grief in that, it doesn’t mean I have to feel guilty for it either.
