As a teen and uni student, I lived in my parents basement apartment. It was the best, it had a private entrance as well. Now in my home I have a basement and attic ! Located in Ontario

Basements can get flooded from too much rain and many insurance companies don’t cover that.

Not on Vancouver Island. It is rock, so digging is not possible. Most "basements" here are ground floor.
