🚨 DELHI’S ‘PINK FORCE’: A NEW PUSH FOR WOMEN’S SAFETY Delhi is preparing to introduce a dedicated “Pink Force” comprising specially trained women police personnel to strengthen safety and provide a more visible police presence at locations where women, girls and children may be particularly vulnerable. The move was announced after Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu directed the Delhi Police to develop a women-centric patrol unit, modelled on the Pink Force initiative of Goa Police. The proposed unit is expected to patrol schools, colleges, metro stations and other vulnerable hotspots, particularly during sensitive hours. 👮‍♀️ WHAT WILL THE PINK FORCE DO? The proposed force is intended to focus on: 🔹 High-visibility patrolling in vulnerable areas 🔹 Presence around schools and colleges 🔹 Patrols near metro stations and transport hubs 🔹 Monitoring sensitive and high-footfall locations 🔹 Faster response to incidents involving women and children 🔹 Deterrence against harassment and eve-teasing 🔹 Greater visibility of women police officers in public spaces The initiative is expected to work alongside existing policing measures rather than replace them. Delhi Police has already used women officers for patrols around educational institutions, markets, metro stations and other public areas. ⚠️ WHY NOW? The announcement follows a series of serious cases involving minor girls reported across Delhi within a period of roughly 10 days. NDTV reported four separate cases of alleged rape or sexual assault involving minors during that period, bringing renewed attention to the safety of women and children in the capital. The incidents have intensified calls for stronger preventive policing and a more visible police presence in vulnerable public spaces. 🛡️ OPERATION SHISHTACHAR TO CONTINUE Alongside the proposed Pink Force, authorities have also directed Delhi Police to continue focused action against eve-teasing and harassment in public spaces under “Operation Shishtachar.” Police have additionally been instructed to strengthen foot and motorcycle patrolling in crime-prone and high-footfall areas. 🏫 SAFETY AWARENESS IN SCHOOLS The wider safety plan also includes regular awareness programmes in schools covering issues such as: • Child safety • POCSO awareness • Cybercrime • Substance abuse • Road safety Police districts have been asked to designate nodal officers and prepare regular outreach programmes. 🚇 FROM STREETS TO METRO STATIONS The idea behind the Pink Force is not simply to respond after an incident occurs, but to create a visible preventive presence in places where large numbers of women, students and children travel or gather.
