@drivenbyjamie: I need to say this clearly, because I don’t want it lost in the video: no hate to homeschool families. Truly. If it’s the right fit for your kid, do it. What I can’t get behind is homeschooling because someone decided public school is the enemy. It’s not. Never has been. The problem was never the building, the teachers, or the kids sitting next to yours. Yes there are bad teachers and bullies. But the big problem is what we’ve done to public school on purpose — more mandates, less funding, and then we act shocked when the system strains under it. Defund something for a decade and then point at it and say “see, it doesn’t work.” That’s infuriating to me. I’m a public school mom because I believe in the fix, not the exit. We fund it. We show up. We stop pretending the kids are the problem and hold legislators accountable for not supporting public education.

I was homeschooled for 2 1/2 years during Covid, I came back and had no social skills and I’m still suffering a little from it. I don’t recommend unless you’re going to provide another way of socializing, but I was able to learn at my own pace and learned more.

I was homeschooled and I can tell you it’s the best opthion. Your relationship with your mother is more. You do hobbies you like and have Freedom to live your childhood and when I did collage I was better at inglish than most of my class despise being dislexic

We school from home, but it’s online state-funded school. We hate the idea of forcing our kids out the door, to be with strangers all day, who are capable of anything. Too many weirdos and guns out there.

Respectfully, if they have not been homeschooled then they won’t have the lived experience to weigh in on this topic accurately. 💗💗💗

I’m homeschooled right now. I don’t get to have the highschool experience. I have no friends. I don’t get to go to the dances. Life is boring. The only benefit is I graduate 1 year early and I don’t have to wake up early. Just stay in regular in person school it’s so much better

I think homeschooling can be done well. But as a public school teacher I have taught formerly homeschooled kids, and they come to me below grade level.

Homeschooling allows kids to be raised with one pov. Public teaches to diversify thinking because you get different perspectives on situations and get to learn how to form your own opinion. If you’re only exposed to one point of view in your life, that’s the only point of view you’ll believe.

I think homeschooling can be done well especially if the child is being bullied. The problem is that most parents who homeschool indoctrinate

I wouldn’t have a problem with home schooling if they’re getting a real education, they’re getting socialized take it to do the same thing as public school or private school kids if they’re able to I can understand with ill or disabled children. Sometimes you have to homeschool.

Homeschooling is way worse for kids growth than public schools. Homeschooling kids means your kids are not surrounded by other kids with diversities of opinions or backgrounds. The only opportunities that homeschooled kids had to socialize with other kids in the tiny little farm town that I grew up in was if they signed up for sports or after school activities. Some of them were very smart academically but that’s only because either their parents could afford further academic resources or one of their parents were academics/former teachers who were financially stable enough to not have to work. Not everyone has that so to argue that homeschooling is better for your kids is simply not true. Public schools are set to higher standards by the states in their curriculum and many teachers find that those homeschooled kids who aren’t lucky enough to have sufficient enough educational resources at home are typically further behind. Also, homeschooled kids are not federally required to complete standardized testing so even if you tried to compare test scores you’re only seeing scores of selective students whereas public schools require all students to take them

To be fair you are the .01% public schooled mom who is actually taking the time to teach and train your child to think for themselves. So thats wonderful to see a public schooled child getting the chance to understand our government, and establish critical thinking. Great job mama! As a homeschooling mama myself, Ive been doing the same!

Home schoolers are not all religious fanatics. Public school needs to be supported for sure, but home schooling can be a viable option. We homeschooled because I wanted family to be the center of the home, not an imposed community time table. Not everyone works a M-F job and not everyone gets summers and holidays off. My girls have more critical thinking skills than most college graduates and I attribute that to our homeschooling years 🤷🏻♀️

as someone who was homeschooled at one point, it is way more beneficial for kids to go to public school. Homeschooling get lonely, you will not have the same social skills and social skills are SO important.
