Put that in perspective: Dubai — the glittering global city-state, oil-rich, low-tax, infrastructure powerhouse — runs a government budget of roughly $23–27 billion a year in spending and books a surplus of about $3–8 billion. Alberta’s leftover cash alone is 3–10 times larger than Dubai’s entire annual surplus… every year. And here’s the bigger picture: an independent Alberta, with a nominal GDP of roughly CAD $470–520 billion (about USD $350–390 billion), would rank among the world’s top 30–35 economies — larger than many established nations and squarely in the same league as countries like Norway, the UAE, or Malaysia. In other words, Alberta wouldn’t just match the fiscal firepower of one of the world’s richest city-states. It would out-surplus Dubai by a factor most countries only dream of — while still funding everything its people already get today, and standing as a mid-tier global economic power in its own right.
