John 17, hours before the arrest, with the basin still on the floor from the foot washing, Jesus lifts his eyes and talks to his Father out loud, and what he asks for is people. "Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am." And he dates it: because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Ephesians 1:4 uses that exact phrase about us, so the love between them and the choosing of us land on the same moment. And the Son asking to be with them is the same one who has been with them the whole time. Paul says the rock in the wilderness was Christ. He asked for a tent so he could walk with people who were walking, he told David he had been living in one since Egypt, and then he became one, which John calls the temple of his body, the one that gets torn down. On the last page John goes looking for the building and there isn't one, because there is nothing left that has to stand in between. #Sukkot #Tabernacle #John17 #Romans8 #Christophany
