day in the life of a marketing lead in new york city. ☁️ i’ve been trying to embrace the inconveniences here, although some days that means standing next to bags of perfectly good clothes, wondering how one person without a car is supposed to get all of this to a donation center. in la, i would’ve kept most of it because i had the space. here, something can still be useful and something i like, and i’ll still have to let it go. apparently “i might wear this someday” gets a lot harder to negotiate with when your closet physically won’t close. i grew up with a mom who could tell you the story behind almost anything in our house. a cup from the grand canyon when i was six, clothes from middle school, little things that became evidence of a life we’d lived. i understand her because i feel it too. throwing something away can feel like being careless with a memory, especially when someone worked to pay for it. but i’m starting to wonder how much of my home i’ve been giving to the fear that i’ll someday wish i’d kept something. there’s a cost to keeping everything, even when you have enough room to avoid noticing it. and buying something feels different when you’re suddenly responsible for figuring out its entire exit from your life. the purchase takes a second, but finding it another home takes time, energy, transportation. i think i’m becoming more thoughtful about what i bring in because i’m finally experiencing the work of letting it leave. then there are the smaller adjustments, like realizing how much mental energy i spend thinking about what my hands and clothes touch on the subway. i miss getting into my own car and moving through the day without thinking about any of that. it’s made me realize how much of feeling comfortable somewhere comes from having a hundred tiny decisions already figured out. right now, so much of my day still requires my attention, and i’m trying to give myself some grace for how tiring that can be. even calling my parents takes a little more thought now. everyone closest to me is still on pacific time, and sometimes i’m ready to tell them about my day before theirs has really started. i’m learning that distance can live in those small moments when something happens and the person you want to tell is asleep. there’s comfort in knowing california is there if i need it. having somewhere familiar to return to makes me feel braver about being here. and i’m so excited for my friends to visit, even though i don’t know all the places i’ll take them yet. i keep thinking about how somewhere i haven’t even discovered will eventually become “my usual,” and one day i’ll bring my family there. i’m looking forward to having a life here that feels familiar enough to share. for now, i get to be here while it’s still becoming familiar to me. :) #dayinthelife #workvlog #Vlog #asmr #dayinmylife
