my daughter has always been classified as SEN but never had a ehcp. didn't do well in her gcse. has started college n is struggling so much. college seems to already after 3 weeks want a meeting to discuss concerns. I feel like iv been let down, never been told she could/needed a ehcp n everytime I went n spoke at school felt like I'm a pushy mum.

It’s a constant battle to get the help. I’m waiting to hear to see if my son has been given a EHCP for secondary school next year. We have to jump through hoops to get them basic help

I’m a mum of a SEN child and at breaking point with fighting for help and keep checking turned away. I’ve asked for help so many times. My son is now getting bigger and stronger. They came out the chat to us and then decided because he was having a good day I didn’t need any help with him and I wasted their time

Unfortunately the big problem is kids who aren't SEN are being sent diagnosis and even sometimes getting diagnosed incorrectly all because a school wanted more funding or a parent thought it was trendy, im sorry but thats the horrible truth and that is what is clogging the system and eventually leading to its collapse in some authorities as they simply cannot keep up. The kids who do really have additional needs aren't having those needs met and just like this case left to rot on the wayside. What needs to be done and I know it sounds horrible is a far stricter initial screening process, the kids who genuinely in need will get through and hopefully it will catch the ones where they've been sent for whatever reason other than genuine. You can throw all the funding you want at the system but while people misuse it, it will never cope. Having a SEN kid is not a trend its a lifelong battle for that child.

The government don’t care, the local authorities are a law until themselves and the MPs don’t challenge the misconduct or the failing of the care act - they just want the families to do everything themselves and it’s too much.

And now the government is practically turning everyone to attack adhd and autism and saying it’s not worth disability benefits. The news constantly criticises those who are neurodivergent. They make the public believe they are just scrounging money. They do not understand how hard the life is.
