Research purposes! The Makkah Clock Tower is located in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, next to the Grand Mosque and the Kaaba. It is part of the Abraj Al-Bait complex, which consists of seven towers. The Makkah Clock Tower is about 601 metres tall, making it one of the tallest buildings in Saudi Arabia and one of the tallest clock towers in the world. The tower has four large clock faces, one on each side, and each clock face is about 43 metres in diameter. The clock faces can be seen from a great distance across Makkah. A large golden crescent is placed at the top of the tower and is about 23 metres high. The tower was officially opened in 2011. Inside the complex there are hotels, apartments, restaurants, shops and prayer areas used by visitors and pilgrims. The Makkah Clock Tower also contains a museum that explains topics such as astronomy, timekeeping, the universe and the history of clocks. The tower is especially important because it stands close to the Grand Mosque, which is the largest mosque in the world and surrounds the Kaaba. Millions of Muslims visit Makkah every year to perform Hajj and Umrah.
