As someone who loves beadwork… I’m kind of team maya. I honestly couldn’t put a price on the hours and materials that feels worth it to sell. However, I love making beadwork for my family and friends. It’s a beautiful dying art, and still so many people say they’d pay $20 for some beads and string. It’s terrible!

People in the comments don’t understand the struggle of having a father like that. My dad is the exact same way. It’s honestly tiring. I just wanted him to be proud of me as a daughter, rather than trying to use my skills as a way to make money. My exact words I told him when I finally got fed up with it. “I feel more like a piggy bank than your daughter.” We don’t really talk anymore. He’s busy with his new family.

I love making things. im constantly making jewelry, resin art, paintings, sewing, and whatever else I want to learn. but they have nowhere to go. they would just sit there. so why not sell them? get my money back for what I spent making it. I could buy more supplies or books. and it would make someone else happy

Some people don’t know what it’s like to have a parent like that. Every interest I had that could be turned into a profit my mom would push to make it for money. Even things that didn’t even need to be a business. She even did this in every day life. There is a difference in wanting to take something you are good at and making it into a living and pushing to turn something into a business just for money

my dad was the same way. I had a hobby that I enjoyed and he tried to force me to monetize it. took all the joy out of it and now I dont enjoy doing it anymore
