There is actually a book all about it, though I don't think no one really knows it, it's called "The rape of Nanking" by iris chang, it's a shocking and pretty graphic book that tells everything about the Nanjing massacre that spanned about six weeks from mid-December 1937 through late January 1938.

Their defense force is only allowed to have defense equipment their fleet is for defense only and they are literally not allowed to start any conflict. Not so fun fact, one of my Filipino ancestors/grandmothers back during the massacre was killed in the ocean/river when she was pregnant and my other grandmother was a doctor during it. The doctor lived and she hated Japanese people until she made one friend when she was 60-70, It was bad and nobody talks about it. (Sorry i don’t remember everything my noni told me)
