@tabs.global.news: TABS GLOBAL NEWS BANK OF GHANA TO INTRODUCE NEW HERITAGE SERIES CEDI NOTES The Bank of Ghana is set to introduce a new series of Ghana cedi banknotes, known as the Heritage Series, on November 3, 2026. The announcement was made by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, following the 132nd Monetary Policy Committee meeting. The new series will cover the existing denominations of GH¢1, GH¢2, GH¢5, GH¢10, GH¢20, GH¢50, GH¢100 and GH¢200. The GH¢2 banknote, which has been absent from circulation, will also be reintroduced. According to the Bank of Ghana, the upgraded notes will feature enhanced security measures, improved durability and modern designs reflecting Ghana's heritage, culture and national identity. The central bank says the redesign is necessary because the current banknote designs have been in circulation for more than two decades, while currency technology and security standards have evolved. And importantly, the existing cedi notes will remain legal tender. The old and new notes will circulate together, meaning the public does not need to rush to exchange existing banknotes when the Heritage Series is introduced. The Bank of Ghana has also clarified that there will be no GH¢500 note or any denomination above GH¢200 under the new series.
