The reason it’s weird is becasue of the recent revision to the definition of foul tip. It used to require “sharp and direct” from bat to glove (so this would not qualify). Now, it’s just sharp and direct from bat to catcher (which did happen here). That’s why this seems so weird to veteran fans. Also, this would be a foul ball at all other rulesets below MiLB.

That ball def hit the ground. Put in slow motion and clear the display. At first it looks like it bounces off the toe but it’s clearly off the ground. Foulball.
