the interesting thing about the 3ds is how the models had colored circle pads too, they even look way shinier than usual, almost like metal. it is unknown why this got scrapped but it was probably to cut curners

Green is typically a very unattractive color to a lot of people (not me) I would assume they probably did tests & saw reactions to what people wanted & green was probably the lowest one out of them all. The green 3ds they had an orange one also I think they wanted to release them, but ultimately didn’t. I do know a purple one was released after the first launch which i believe that one wasn’t even shown at the E3 preview. I do think because of Xbox becoming a thing that’s why future systems didn’t really have any green releases unless it was for a game exclusive console. Nintendo needs to bring color back tho cause it’s so boring what they do now
