So this was my mum and then I picked partners just like her as I recognised the pattern and it was strangely comforting as I knew what to do. I didn’t stand a chance lol happily single and healed and my mum was better too in the last 10 years before she passed last year. I got accountability from her which I really needed

My husbands fear of early dementia came when I was talking about my feelings… I didn’t know this was a thing.

Ugh… exhausting behavior that snowballs into avoiding conversations and eventually disconnection.

I went on a date where the guy mansplained women’s issues for 45 minutes so I got up from the table and started to leave and he apologized the 10 minutes later in the car he told me about his childhood trauma. I tried to call him out on this transition and he did what they always do…

My MIL is like this. I have tried to bring it up (she shuts down if a conversation feels uncomfortable to her) and it gets awkward with her silent tension so “coming back to my thing” actually never happens. She has even talked about “being there for me” to others, but our conversations and interactions are all about her so I feel she is being hypocritical. I love being there for her but I do need to be able to have some actual attention in this relationship. I feel like I need to let go of the relationship but she is a good person and I’ve invested a lot so it is hard. This video is really helpful.

I finally started calmly approaching, expressing my complaint, and ONLY apologizing for my actions that I agree were wrong. maybe his perspective changed my mind and I understand better, but I will make sure to remind him, "I was hurt and feel I deserve an apology"
