The people who typically get promoted are typically those who confirm and are more malleable. Once they move up they are groomed for the next level of compliance.

I think one of the biggest differences is communication, especially how leaders treat information as a source of power.
People who reinforce the system tend to gatekeep context. People who buck it share information freely: they explain why decisions were made, push back on the status quo, and give their teams the context to think for themselves.
In a way, they’re willing to give up some of the power that comes from knowing more in exchange for a team that is more informed, aligned, and capable.

This is also culture and people need to have deep integrity to not change their values based on organizational culture.

And then the strong, accountable, high integrity manager is pushed out and suffers from moral injury 😏

We also get “coached” on how to manage and have executive presence. And it makes enough sense that you’re like, okay there is some validity to this. But, yeah, it feels unnatural and the ability to fight your humanity is rewarded.
