I am going to pull my hair out with these lists. How are we glazing the SH2 remake and f so much when the combat in both games has turbo fucked the atmosphere driven horror and ambiance that actually made the SH games unique amongst its peers?! The Souls-like boss fights in f and the CONSTANT fights in the SH2 remake just are not consistent with the game at its peak. In the original games you can genuinely just run past so many enemies and avoid conflicts which was advantageous in a survival horror game. A game with limited resources where the player feels disadvantaged against the enemy forcing you to choose to fight or not is FAR more interesting. This is also why the RE1 remake is so good because it plays this balance SO well. in the SH2 remake the game just force feeds you such aggressive combat situations that are nearly inescapable that it completely takes away the ability to just explore in a creepy unsettling environment. Also do not get me started on the groan worthy "squeeze through walls" shit that every cinematic third person game seems to have. Lame Are these games bad? absolutely not. Do I feel like the remake did a lot of things right? Absolutely. Do I think it fully captures the charm of the first 3 games? No way. Both f and SH2 remake suffer from modern game design that prioritizes trying to keep the player's short attention span engaged rather than just allowing the atmosphere to play a bigger role.
