Verity is objectively from Minecraft, but that doesn't mean he belongs to Minecraft. His origin and his identity are two separate things. The entire ‘Verity's from Minecraft, he belongs to Backrooms’ meme is built around that distinction, with Minecraft and the Backrooms literally fighting over where he belongs.The Backrooms are fundamentally a liminal space, defined by displacement and the feeling of being somewhere familiar but fundamentally wrong. That makes them a perfect metaphor for Verity's relationship with Minecraft. He's born there, but he doesn't seem to fit neatly into its world.That's also why I think Verity works as a trans allegory. Not because the canon says he's transgender, but because his story can be interpreted through the distinction between where someone is assigned/originates and where they understand themselves to belong. Minecraft is his origin. The Backrooms represent the place that feels more like his actual identity.So saying ‘Verity is from Minecraft’ answers the question of his birthplace. It doesn't answer the question of where he belongs. And the entire joke of the meme is that those aren't necessarily the same thing.

Verity probably doesn’t want to admit since he is in fact from Minecraft but he does belong to the backrooms.
