if you have to cut a hole in the wall to do a repair, cut a big hole. your patching up either way, so might as well have a hole big enough to easily work in.

Although they generally do a decent job, I never use patches. Don’t trust them in a wall. Cut the pipe at the hole and again above or below and two couplers.

If there’s still water anywhere near that the solder will not work. Alternatively cut it and put on a compression fitting or a push fit
