Prairie is about how you make it tbh. I worked there for a couple years and had alot of people with mixed reviews but the people that are mad they are there and don't admit when the help is needed are the ones that get upset

They just want to pump you with pills and keep you until they see you’re “fit” to go home….been there 4times as a young kid from age 5-11. Wouldn’t wish that place on my worst enemy.

It’s a handful of patients that make places like this bad. Staff get burnt out from bad nurse to patient ratios and violent troublemakers. I’ve never worked there, but I’m in the field. Most people that choose to work at these facilities do so because they are caring people, or have been through similar hard times in their lives. Patients need to have accountability if they truly want change in their life. Help us help you.

The doctors always on a power trip I didn’t want to take the medicine I had it before and it didn’t work and then he told me he was gonna get a letter for a judge and make me stay for two weeks unless I take it😐

my daughter has had to be admitted twice and I absolutely hated dealing with the staff there. The one lady at the front desk says "well this is what you get with psych hospitals" I said " no this is what you get with PSJ!". I set up a pickup time with her overseeing med dr at psj, for 11:30 the next morning. when the discharge nurse calls to set up discharge paperwork she asked me again what time id be coming. i reiterated 11:30 and then asked why the dr hadnt told her that when we spoke not 3 hours prior. she just chalked it up to " oh i must have missed it." so I get there, and they said "oh, I didnt have anyone on my list for discharge out of there today let me call up and check" she calls, then talks for a minute and hangs up "well they weren't aware of a discharge today either so she will be down when shes down." i said "this is absolute bullshit" to which she responded with the previously mentioned comment. after all that was said I paced that lobby floor for about 20 minutes letting my keys swing and hit my leg with each and every step. I wasn't going to stop until they gave me my kid. if anyone knows of a better childrens mental health hospital in the area I can send her to when she has her episodes im ALL ears, I never want to deal with PSJ again. They're a fucking joke. im so sorry for all of your horror stories.

I hated it here when I went! I wasn’t inpatient but still hated it they just want to drug you and then send you on your way. Thought after 7 years they changed and my son was there not impatient and it was the same thing so never again!
