Instead of stopping, the driver — identified as 23-year-old Thalia Jones — allegedly sped away, leading troopers on a pursuit through the rural area. Authorities said the chase became more dangerous when Jones reportedly drove into oncoming traffic in an attempt to evade officers. Troopers then used a PIT maneuver, a tactic intended to safely disable a fleeing vehicle. The maneuver caused the Charger to lose control, hit objects near the roadside, and overturn into a field. After the crash, officers discovered a 3-year-old child inside the vehicle when the toddler climbed out of the wreckage and ran toward troopers as they secured the scene. Officials said the child was not injured and was evaluated by emergency responders along with his mother before being released to another adult at the scene.
