My older kids go to Choate Rosemary Hall as we’re alumni (lol wish we got financial aid for being legacy but they do have really great financial aid for a lot of kids). My younger two will be going to private school when they’re old enough for kindergarten, mostly because I don’t believe in limiting their education for principal. My kids deserve the best imo, it’s why we work hard so they can get benefits that may not be available to others.

The thing is that education does not equal success. I can't count how many kids of color that were only's that are emotionally unwell by the time they graduate high school, if they graduate (many finish in continuation or homeschool. many that I've met ended up in successful paths but their mental health is shot for years. Not worth it to me, not by a long shot

And to ignore the many systemic failures that forced Nikole Hannah-Jones into this impossible choice in the first place, then take the attention generated by her deeply personal and vulnerable reflection and turn it into an opportunity to hawk 529 accounts for a commission? There’s something especially gross about watching a Black woman lay bare the impossible choices created by systemic inequality and thinking: how can I monetize this moment? Just wow.
