She’s SUCH a valid character to me bc she went through hell and we’ve SEEN the other gems that went through the same. It drove them crazy but for this one little boy who was soft and kind to her she fights every day not to become the worst version of herself. My other favorite Lapis moment is when the other Lapis gems were trying to pull those mean girl stunts on her and she snatched them up to let them know she could take the whole world out and shatter them w/o a thought. I wanted her to do it so bad but was also so proud of her growth.

In defense of the crystal gems on whether they knew lapis was in there the gem on the mirror actually wasn't a good indicator this isn't technically a spoiler, because it's not lore important but just know that there are a lot of appliances that have gems in them, mostly on homeworld

To be entirely fair, as far as the gems were concerned, when they found the mirror with the broken gem there’s a number of possibilities that would’ve granted them more trouble than it’d been worth. They could’ve released the gem it could’ve been corrupted and become a beast they’d have to fight and defeat only to bubble it anyway. It could’ve been a dangerous homeworld loyalist gem with stronger powers than they had posing an immense risk, which the episode does show that happening 😭😭😭 (cuz the crystal gems got cleared as soon as she was able to wield the entire planet’s ocean, CRAZY). Or they release her and her broken gem form causes her to be unsalvageable bc they don’t have Rose’s tears anymore, and this reason only works up until they know Steven has healing spit powers instead. These are all the potential reasons and risks that made them hesitant to release her. Not an excuse, but an explanation. And who knows, maybe they were planning to release her anyway, eventually, but considering the way Pearl’s inventory works and the fact the mirror was only brought up when Pearl was reminded of it and it could’ve be used to inform Steven on information, it’s likely she and the other gems may have just forgot about her in the long run. I can at least understand why, cuz it could’ve been dangerous monster who could escape and threaten a human, a homeworld gem who could’ve overpowered them, or someone they didn’t really have the power to help or fix. Though to be honest this all kind of falls apart the moment I consider the fact that Pearl found the mirror not long after the war ended and had the mirror the entire time while Rose was still alive and could’ve healed her gem. Nevermind they were wack asf 😭
